Cusco Archaeological Sites Tour (Sacsayhuamán & Surroundings)
Visit four of the most important Inca sites located just outside the city of Cusco, each offering a unique glimpse into the engineering, astronomy, and spiritual traditions of the Inca Empire.
🏛️ Sacsayhuamán
Known as the Temple of the Sun, Sacsayhuamán is the most impressive architectural achievement of the Inca period. Built under the rule of Inca Pachacútec, its massive stone walls—some weighing up to 120 tons—showcase incredible precision and strength. This site was the setting for important religious celebrations such as Warachikuy and Inti Raymi.
🌌 Q’enqo
A fascinating astronomical and ceremonial center, Q’enqo was used by the Incas for mummification rituals and offerings to the gods. Its carved rock altars and mysterious passageways make it one of the most intriguing Inca sites.
🛕 Puka Pukara
This small fortress served as a resting place and checkpoint along the Inca Trail. Its name means «Red Fortress,» and it likely functioned as a military and administrative post guarding access to Cusco.
💧 Tambomachay
Known as the Temple of Water, Tambomachay is a ceremonial site dedicated to water and purification. You’ll see a series of aquaducts, fountains, and canals that still flow perfectly after centuries.
