The wonder of Cusco goes far beyond Machu Picchu. One of its most fascinating yet lesser-known treasures is Waqrapukara—a breathtaking archaeological site of Inca origin, rich in mystery and beauty.
Perched in the Andes and surrounded by stunning landscapes, Waqrapukara features ceremonial structures and unique circular platforms. It is a place of deep cultural significance, still shrouded in mystery for all who visit.
If you’re a lover of nature, history, and peaceful surroundings, Waqrapukara offers an unforgettable experience. Unlike the more crowded sites, it remains quiet, serene, and truly special—admired by every traveler who reaches its heights.
Waqrapukara Full Day Tour – Itinerary
We begin the day by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:30 AM, heading south through the scenic South Valley on a 3-hour drive to the community of Campi. Along the way, we’ll make a stop to enjoy breakfast with beautiful views of the countryside.
After breakfast, we continue to the starting point of our hike. The trail is relatively flat with some gentle ups and downs, making it accessible to most travelers. The hike to Waqrapukara takes approximately 2.5 hours round trip, with around 2 hours spent walking.
This route is especially recommended for those preparing for or recovering from the Inca Trail, as it offers excellent acclimatization and a chance to enjoy unique landscapes and local biodiversity. On the way, we’ll pass impressive rock formations, ancient cave paintings, and encounter the native flora and fauna of the Andes.
Upon arrival at Waqrapukara, you’ll have about 1 hour to explore the archaeological site—an incredible example of Inca engineering and architecture, dramatically built atop a mountain ridge. The views and atmosphere here are truly unforgettable.
We return via a shorter and easier trail to the community of Wayki, where our transportation will be waiting. From there, we drive back to Cusco, arriving around 7:00 PM.
